June 2nd-Evening (Phone)

[With everything that's gone as of late, Skye is struggling with the fact that her mother had been in trouble with the law. She was also struggling to not act like she wasn't as affected by this as she was, considering no one around here knew they were related. Much less mother and daughter.

She was desperate now though and it was hard to keep the worry out of her voice.]

Has anyone seen Jiaying?

( the voice on the other end of the line is one prompto doesn't know, but the name as unique as that stands out enough to be noticed; his own meeting with jiaying, though brief, stays etched within his mind as one of his first real memories made upon arrival. it's not the only thing that compels him to respond, however; jiaying isn't the only one who's gone, if she is indeed missing, and the desperation in the stranger's tone hits far too close to home. )

Is... has she disappeared, too?

[Clary shivers before placing the phone to her ear.]

Not since that party...

[Likewise, Skye doesn't recognize the voice. Her mother had known a lot of people here though, some of which she didn't know personally.

His question throws her though.]

I don't know.

[It sure as hell seems that way, but would her mother really leave her here if she decided to make a run for it?]

Who else has disappeared?

[Skye is filled with guilt over the party, despite having absolutely no idea something like that could even happen. Even still, it was an accident. A terrible accident. At least that's what she was told, and why would Skye have any reason to not believe her?

Skye has to force herself not to apologize for this, especially when she recognizes her voice.]

A lot of people haven't.

[And that's the problem.]

[Clary is trying to forget that party but she can understand Skye's worry. People going missing, weird happenings, suit cases and strange journals, the trackers and memories that don't properly align as they should: maybe they should all be worrying.]

Her things are here right? She didn't pack and leave? Do you think something happened?

[The questions might not have been helpful but it feels like she was doing something more than just talking on the phone about what they don't know.]

Have you tried the hospital?

[ With the spate of accidents recently, it would make sense for someone around here to go temporarily missing, right? ]

W-well, it's only been a couple of days so I might just be overreacting, but a friend of mine that I'm rooming with hasn't come back for a couple of days and the place he runs in town has been shut too -- it's not like him to just up and leave without a sound. When was the last time you saw Jiaying?

Did she disappear following the party?

[Someone is a little pissed about that.]

[Pushing the palm of her hand against her forehead, Skye let some of the weight of her head lean into her hand as she leaned forward.]

No. Everything is still here.

[Of course something happened. Whether by accident or not, people are dead or hurt because of her mother.]

What if someone was getting their revenge?

Shut as in the town shut it?

[Skye didn't like hearing that at all. Not to mention she felt both relieved and worried to hear that it wasn't just her mother that had been gone missing. Maybe this wasn't about the party. Maybe this was something else.

Which meant more people were at risk.]

I saw her on the 27th.

[It went without saying that was the day of the party, right?]

Yeah. I've checked there a few times. They haven't seen here then in over a month.

[What she had been doing there before then she wasn't sure.]

I've searched every obvious place multiple times and nothing.

[Skye swallowed thickly at the mention of the party. Even though she assumed this was the cause of the disappearance, it was hard when someone else brought up the same suspicion.]

Yes.

Which I know is not a coincidence.

I... don't know.

[Clary hadn't actually thought of that. The event had been jarring but she'd come out of it okay. The worst part about it is that she had to accept the fact that there is something strange about her, that Alec was right; she was an angel. Or maybe something else that didn't sound too cheesy.]

I'll keep a look out. I'm not sure what else to do. It's a small town though. She can't be lost for long.

[As she says that she thinks about the janitor and sighs.]

I wish I could help more.

Ouch. I'm sorry. How long has it been?

Did the sheriff take her?

[And then much more importantly:]

Did you know?

[That's just it. It's a small town, and the fact that she hasn't heard anything about her disappearance is worrying. Closing her eyes, Skye bit her lower lip before speaking up again.]

Yeah. I know that feeling.

[Wanting to help. She couldn't save those people, and she can't seem to protect her mother either.]

Thanks for responding anyway, and for offering to keep an eye out for her.

[Considering she had been at the party when everything went down. Skye was sure a lot of people didn't think she was worth looking for right now. That whatever happened to her is something she deserved.]

It's-

[Well 'fine' wasn't the right word.]

It's been six days.

[Skye felt sick to her stomach as soon as she was asked that question. It's not really surprising that she would be accused of something like that, considering that they had been seen in public enough time to have people think they were friends.

It still hurt regardless and it's hard to not be defensive.]

Did I know that people were going to get hurt or die that night? No. I didn't.

Some kind of search team is probably the next step.

Yeah.

[She had thought about that, but...]

It would be a pretty small search team. Considering she disappeared after the party.

What party? Why would a party mean fewer people?

You...?

[This town was small. Beyond small. How had he not heard about it?]

You don't know what happened?

No? I just got out of the hospital, guess I haven't caught up on all my town gossip.

[Skye is silent for a moment because she really doesn't want to be the one to explain this to him.]

You'll hear about it soon I'm sure.

... Guess I will. [ He's going to have to ask around, isn't he? What happened...? ]

That search team, though, are you going to be able to put that together?

[ She sounds like this is all very personal. It doesn't hurt to offer help. ]

[Ana isn't sure if she should believe her or not. Right now she's angry enough not to, but she isn't going to say that. Revenge doesn't seem to work here, at least not now.]

Have you spoken to the sheriff?

No problem.

[Clary’s voice doesn’t sound very convincing but there is a firmness to it. The sort of stubborn determination that you wanted to put faith in, even when you knew it was hopeless.]

If you need anything let me know. Even if I can’t find her. I don’t think anyone should be alone.

[With that Clary feels that she’s said all she can. She doesn’t like the feeling that’s gathered in her chest. The fact that she has no answers for the part or for the woman’s disappearance. Everything is starting to weigh on her and it’s making her feels lost and restless.]

Not sure how much of a 'team' it will be, but I'll try.

[Even just asking people if they had seen her made her feel sick to her stomach a little. The fact that this had affected people personally, she hated that it might bring up bad memories for them just to hear her name. Skye, of course, was torn how to feel about all of this.]

[The fact that she didn't even acknowledge her defense didn't surprise Skye at all. She expected it, kind of. This backlash on her personally.]

It would be like talking to a brick wall.

[Skye is just glad this is all being talked about over the phone rather than in person. She's a pretty good liar, but trying to pretend this isn't as personal as it really is, is hard. Especially when this woman, who had been affected by this, is offering help.]

Do you know why she did it? I thought we were friends.

[ He really doesn't know the issue. But if someone is missing out there along with all this other mystery going on, he wants to do something about that. ]

It was an accident.

[That's what she had told her and she believed it. Why would someone who's done so much for this community do something that terrible on purpose? Skye refused to think that her mother was actually capable of hurting anyone.]

[While she understood that people felt betrayed or otherwise affected by all of this, it was nice to hear someone not see her mother as a murderer.]

[Considering this stranger has been nothing but helpful in offering his help, Skye figured she might as well know his name. Especially if she decides to take him up on that offer.]

[ There's a brief pause because, embarrassingly, his own name is not automatic knowledge yet. Chalk it up to some fun, fun amnesia. ]

[She wasn't sure if the pause was because he couldn't remember his name, or that he was hesitant to say it over the phone.]

I saw her. She basically went 'oops' and dropped it. I've done things like that, it wasn't an accident.

[Except she wasn't in the room when it happened.]

I hope she's alright and hasn't run over the wall somewhere.
