( channel 0 ) the sheriff ; snow as fuck

[ it's been awfully quiet since the snow set in. not a single vehicle can make it down the unplowed streets, and with untouched powder piled upwards of three feet deep, not even the local kids can be heard making merry use of the snow day outside.

at 9 AM this morning, in each and every house and public location, the land-line phone gives a single ring. though it means nothing to new residents so far, it will come to be known that this single ring means that something new has gone up on the seldom-used network channel 0.

if characters pick up the phone, their greeting is cut off as the voice on the other end launches into a spiel.
]

Hey there, friends and neighbors! Awful lot of snow we've been getting, huh?

Those of us down here at the precinct just wanted to remind you all to stay indoors and keep yourselves warm. Seems like plenty of you have been doing just that, so you folks, just keep it up.

All hands are on deck down at the shop to get our plow up and running - been a while since we've seen a chilly couple of days like this one, usually a little salt will do the trick just fine. Once she's functional, we'll run her up and down the main streets, then the residential.

I'm going to repeat: Please, do what you can to stay inside where it's nice and toasty. If you're out of groceries, a couple of folks down at the volunteer fire department are on call to fetch you some necessities, and if it seems like the heat in your home's not working quite like it should, give 911 a quick ring. We don't anticipate much need for emergency services, so the sweethearts at the center are on call to connect you to a handy repairman to fix it right up.

Have a good one, Wayward Pines. We'll see you on the other side of this little dose of winter in no time at all.

[ anyone who has, at any point, come into contact with wayward pines' sheriff probably recognized the voice. casual, friendly, but with an underlying sense of authority. he'll answer this post if it gets any replies, but it'll probably take a hot minute. he's a busy guy, after all. ]

( oh hey. there's a phone in here. how convenient!

there's a forced laugh in his voice, attempting to inject a level of joviality into the situation so as to not arouse suspicion. it's a joke, it's a joke! hahahahaha, look at crazy howard stark trying to bring some fun and make people laugh, hahahahaha.... oy vey. )
Hypothetical question: what if we found ourselves somewhere... that's not our house? Uh, let's say for lack of a better example, a garage.

( and, let's say, when you woke up, there was blood on your hands and you had no idea how you ended up here after — god knows how long. sure, by this point, amnesia and a lapse of memory are not new feelings for howard, but still. it's as unnerving now as it was the first time.

it's a struggle to come up with his last recollection, but he is 99% positive it was not snowing then. which begs the question, how much time is missing from his memory? because, from what the sheriff says, it sounds like this snow has been falling for far longer than twelve hours. )

What would we do then?

( keeping the phone to his ear, howard looks around the garage, trying to gauge his exact location. standard garage setup: power tools, lawn maintenance equipment, recycling bin, christmas decorations that haven't been put away yet, and — oh. he spots something off in the corner, covered with a tarp. something clicks. the cogs in his mind slowly begin to whirl to life. with a rushed tone, he quickly amends, ) Actually, nevermind. Answered my own question. I got it.

( cue the a-team theme song. )
