[ So Mary is seven. And while she's smart, she doesn't quite realize this network is private. Or that a message board is... a message board. Sorry network.]

Frank. Look what I made. Can I put it on the fridge?

I'd definitely vote for Fred. Looks like he's seen a lot, knows what he's doing.

Exactly the kind of qualities we need in mayor. Is he has fluffy as he is wise?

You're very lucky to have someone as amazing as him, then. Hopefully Louie and Chili aren't jealous.

Good choice for a first cat. I'm a big fan of cats myself.

I actually don't remember right now? I'll get back to you on that, though, it's a good question.

I don't have one right now. I'm an old guy so unfortunately he's not with us anymore.

Yes, but he was my cat, not my daughter's. How old is Fred?

That's some pretty personal stuff for a little girl to talk about where anyone can read it.

What, about death? Or her cat's secret desire to run for mayor?

Please tell me you're planning to talk about stranger danger/internet safety, too.

With her, yes.

With you, I like to think I don't need to have a talk with a grown man over a seven-year-old's ability to make informed choices when talking about herself. Especially in a town that's pretty restrictive about that kind of thing.

[ He really doesn't mean to be a hardass. Frank read the whole conversation with Mary, and it was perfectly innocent. He's just not sure the people who wrote those signs will agree. Despite his forays into Weaver's, it's enough to keep him wanting to hunker down with her. ]

Your point is rather compelling. I'd like to think minors wouldn't be involved in all that, but who am I kidding?

[ It's a misstep for sure. Roman's not clear on why he'd make it, either, considering he's been in this town... for a long time. So it feels, anyway. Something about it is still raw, though, and he doesn't want to get a child in trouble over his own confusion. ]

Promise I'll stay away from the hard-hitting topics in the future.

I'm not sure he's got the temperament for politics, but who knows? Maybe it will set him apart.

People love the everyman, it's definitely an advantage nowadays.

Nah, the everyman is just another flavor of politician and can still get you into trouble besides. Fred just doesn't have a hidden agenda.

Nah, that's Mary's job. And I think I'm a little insulted.

[ Say it ain't so, Roman. ]
